Tasting Southeast Minnesota’s History and Heritage: Maple Syruping In Goodhue County!
Hok-Si-La Municipal Park and Campground
co-presented with Red Wing Environmental Learning Center
Discover how the Goodhue County Historical Society has collaborated with two community partners, the Hok-Si-La Municipal Park and Campground and the Red Wing Environmental Learning Center to connect their visitors and museum’s mission to the environments they share in Southeast Minnesota. Jason Jech, Executive Director of the Red Wing ELC will guide us through their maple syrup program, showing the major steps involved and sharing tasty samples!
In this session, we’ll not only get taste of Southeast Minnesota, participants will learn how to create collaborative educational programs that help museums connect their visitors to the natural environments we share. We’ll learn both the pros and cons of these types of programs, and discuss strategies museums can pursue to connect visitors to our natural surrounding. How can programs like this inform our organization’s commitments to the environment, and how might they inform inward looking sustainable practices we can pursue as museum professionals?
Please be prepared to be outdoors in all weather conditions.
SESSION 2

Creating More Diverse, Inclusive and Welcoming Museum Environments

Minnesota Historical Society’s Department of Inclusion and Community Engagement will facilitate a short discussion on what diversity looks like in museums across Southeast Minnesota, and strategies museums can use to engage diverse communities and the publics we’d like to connect with.
