SCHEDULE

SESSION 1

1:00 – 2:00 pm

Red River Walk: Interpreting history and the natural world

Hjemkomst Center and surrounding Red River banks

co-presented with the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County

Join us for this guided walk along the Red River and through the Moorhead Saloon District, as we discover strategies for interpreting both the historical and natural environments in a larger effort to create a more vibrant, ecologically-minded, and historically-forward community!

Together we'll ask questions like: Where can history and environmental education overlap? What elements exist in nature to help us better interpret history? What can our shared history teach us about environmental responsibility and what can museums do about it?

Please be prepared to be outdoors in all weather conditions.

SESSION 2

2:30 – 3:30 pm

Creating More Welcoming, Diverse, and Healthier Communities

Hjemkomst Center

Get a guided tour of the Hjemkomst Center and discover the strategies they are developing to make their museum more diverse, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for all kinds of visitors: whether it's finding strategies to make historic homes more accessible, discovering hidden narratives in content, or ways to make museum materials more inclusive and relevant. Then we'll hear from the Minnesota Historical Society's Department of Inclusion and Community Engagement as they facilitate a short discussion on what diversity looks like in museums across Northwestern Minnesota and strategies museums can use to engage diverse communities and grow the varied publics museums serve.

HAPPY HOUR & WORKSHOP

4:00-5:30pm

Workshop and Social Mixer: Yard Games & Growlers

Comstock Houseco-presented with Fargo Brewing

Retreat to the historic grounds of the Comstock House, an MNHS site, and get a sampling of Northeastern Minnesota's most local, regional flavors generously provided by Fargo Brewing. Part social hour, part workshop, you'll get introduced to a variety of beverages that Northeastern Minnesota is creating to make their community more vital!
